To my Grandkids

A GRANDMOTHER'S PRAYER

Oh Lord, I do not ask for much,
Eternal beauty or youth or such:
Just give me a little hand to hold
And I'll forget that I'm growing old.

I do not ask for cloudless skies,
A life that's free from tears and sighs,
Just give me a little face to kiss
And anxious moments will turn to bliss.

For what is there, really, that means so much
As little hands that reach and touch,
As little eyes that search and see
Only the best in fragile me?

So let me grow more loving and wise
By looking at life through their wide eyes.
For through these little ones, Thou hast given
This grateful grandmother a glimpse of Heaven.

A Wonderful Cookie Recipe

RICH & CHEWY CRANBERRY WHITE CHOCOLATE COOKIES

Ingredients
(I usually double the recipe)
2/3 cup butter, melted and cooled until slightly warmed
1 large egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup Mariani Sweetened Dried Cranberries
1/2 cup chopped toasted Macadamia nuts (opt.) 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
2 tablespoons honey
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup old fashion oats
1/2 teaspoon of each: salt and cinnamon
3/4 cup white chocolate chips
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F
By hand or mixer, blend together butter, brown sugar and honey. Add egg and vanilla, mix well. In a large bowl, stir together flour, oats, baking soda, salt and cinnamon; add to butter mixture and mix until combined well. Stir in remaining ingredients. Be care not to add too much flour or cook to long.
Place dough 2” apart on un-greased baking sheet and bake in the center of your oven until edges are lightly browned and centers are still soft, about 10-12 minutes. (Do not over bake if you want chewy cookies)
Cool completely.
Yields about 2 ½ dozen 2” cookies

Sunday Morning

I love listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on Sunday mornings. I would go to downtown Salt Lake every Sunday if I weren't so lazy, so I turn on the TV instead and enjoy listening and watching the choir sing and Lloyd Newell as he gives his thoughts for the day. Last Sunday I turned the TV on like usual and the message especially touched me. I have been thinking a lot lately about how difficult it is to be accepting and loving with other people when they do not believe or live the way I do. I think it builds our character and as we try to improve and live more closely to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Our actions are important but so are the thoughts and feelings that we nuture in our hearts and minds. I for one need to work continually on accepting and loving others. I think this article is great advice for living a more loving life.

Chilcote Family Vacation at Pineview

Family campout at Pineview

Camping is not my favorite outing...as all my kids will tell you. In fact they took turns bugging me and saying, "I hear you don't want to go camping with the family." Just wait until they are 66 and they find out that what goes around comes around! Anyway, my kids talked me into going for two nights and 2 1/2 days. I was not looking forward to sleeping outdoors and especially in a tent so we took our pop up trailer even though it has no connecting lights for the truck and a trailer that needed lots of work in order to actually pop up. You would think I did the work but I didn't, I just watched the guys work. They handily put up a tent for Cheryl and family and then the pop up trailer and it worked just fine. I was surpisingly very comfortable. It was great fun being with the family around the campfire and being in the boat was really a double treat. Garn and I even rode on "Super Mabel". Sean was nice enough to just give us the thrill ride and not throw us off into the Lake. Sean and Justin's family are very familiar with the lake and water sports so they gave us a great water skiing show and Super Mabel wars. All in all I give our trip an A+. As far as I know, no one got mad, got hurt or was even disgruntled. Well, maybe Jonathan got a little wee bit disgruntled. Way to go Chilcotes! I am so proud of you. Whoops, there goes that pride thing again. Anyway, I love all of you. Thanks for being such good sports and showing me that camping can be somewhat FUN!

The Floridians -Linda and Kent

Brothers and Sister

My Nephew, Cam Anderson, came for a visit, swim and barbeque with his two boys last night and wanted to explain to his children where his grandpa and other family members fell into the Anderson family. It is kind of sad that we don't get together for reunions or family affairs so that the cousins and relatives know who we are. It takes someone really ambitious to put together a reunion and we haven't quite found that person yet in the Anderson family. Pictured Below: My brother, Larry first on the left - he being our Elder brother and then Kent being next in line. Then me, as the middle child and Mike just younger than me (that is kind of an exaggeration) and then the baby of the family, Jacquie Mortenson. Larry and Jacquie live in St. George, Kent lives in Florida and Mike lives in Fruit Heights. We are all in relatively good health at this time. We get together yearly, I believe mostly thanks to Kent's wife who has a strong sense of family and makes plans to fly to Utah either during the summer or the early fall. Thank you Linda for your perserverance and help making this happen.
