To my Grandkids

A GRANDMOTHER'S PRAYER

Oh Lord, I do not ask for much,
Eternal beauty or youth or such:
Just give me a little hand to hold
And I'll forget that I'm growing old.

I do not ask for cloudless skies,
A life that's free from tears and sighs,
Just give me a little face to kiss
And anxious moments will turn to bliss.

For what is there, really, that means so much
As little hands that reach and touch,
As little eyes that search and see
Only the best in fragile me?

So let me grow more loving and wise
By looking at life through their wide eyes.
For through these little ones, Thou hast given
This grateful grandmother a glimpse of Heaven.

Fun in Sunny California

This past week, April 12 through April 18 I spent in California.I flew down and back with my Nephew's son Michael and he visited with his dad while I spent the week with my long time friend Liz. Liz is a blast to be with and I almost cannot keep up with her. We started out spending all day at the Garment district in LA. It is a a version of Tijuana only much bigger area for the shops. There are blocks and blocks of purses, shoes, clothes, fabrics, etc. The following days were spent going to lunch, the beach twice (one was riding beach cruisers from Huntington Beach to Balboa beach and back again). We spent late nights talking, watching TV, talking, and computer blogs.

One thing I should mention that was a highlight for me was going to the Newport Temple. I had never been to a small temple. It is a very different process as you are not assigned lockers and you have to make an appointment in order to do a session. It was a neat experience and I am so glad we were able to go. Needless to say, there wasn't much time for just sitting around getting bored.

The weather was beautiful varying from 100 degrees in La the first day to the 70's in Orange County. The flowers and greenery were breathtaking and remind me how barren it still is in Utah. I am anxious for the season change here in Utah.

Flying home with Michael was a treat. I was up until 3:00 am California time the night before I left and actually thought I might get to sleep a little. No such luck as Michael kept me busy either talking, looking at Star Wars characters in his new book (we had to bookmark the best ones) or eating treats and peanuts. He ate 6 small bags of peanuts and 2 cups of sprite. When I asked the Steward for more Peanuts; this being the 3rd time, he came back to our seat with a big smile and covered Michael's tray with bags of peanuts. It was a fun return trip.

I went to Michael's soccer game on Saturday and heard some about the peanuts. I told him I heard he slept on the plane and he said not on the way back. It was fun to read about your trip; Garn had told us a little bit. Your picture is great and your're right, it does make us long for some green. The trees outside my office window look like a sea of popcorn this morning. Your bro.

Hey, I want to go. I enjoyed hearing about Michael. He must have been very hungry. Isn't life great to have the opportunity to jet around and lay on the beach! Maren had my car all week and I was having a bad time with my RA so I spent most of the week depressed in bed with novels. Your week sounded better.
