To my Grandkids

A GRANDMOTHER'S PRAYER

Oh Lord, I do not ask for much,
Eternal beauty or youth or such:
Just give me a little hand to hold
And I'll forget that I'm growing old.

I do not ask for cloudless skies,
A life that's free from tears and sighs,
Just give me a little face to kiss
And anxious moments will turn to bliss.

For what is there, really, that means so much
As little hands that reach and touch,
As little eyes that search and see
Only the best in fragile me?

So let me grow more loving and wise
By looking at life through their wide eyes.
For through these little ones, Thou hast given
This grateful grandmother a glimpse of Heaven.

Birthdays

This past year, I reflected on what to buy for 14 grandchildren. I decided that I wanted to spend time with my grandkids as well as let them choose something that they could use that possiblly the neighbor friends and parents would not give them for their birthday. I also wanted to give them something that would help them to read better and be with them for more than the day of their birthday. I came up with the thought of buying them a book or books depending on the price. I have been taking them on their birthday or as close as possible to the bookstore. I am hopeful that this can be a tradition for the future as well. Barnes and Noble, although a little expensive, has been a hit and appears to be the best atmosphere to sit around, browse, read books and spend an afternoon. I think the "kids" enjoyed it as much as I did and spending time one on one was more fun than I ever imagined.

Great Idea! Nothing better than books and choosing one together is a nice bonding experience. I will have to remember that.

This experience will be one they never forget. You are an amazing grandmother and always know just how to create a memory rather than buy a gift. Love that!
