To my Grandkids

A GRANDMOTHER'S PRAYER

Oh Lord, I do not ask for much,
Eternal beauty or youth or such:
Just give me a little hand to hold
And I'll forget that I'm growing old.

I do not ask for cloudless skies,
A life that's free from tears and sighs,
Just give me a little face to kiss
And anxious moments will turn to bliss.

For what is there, really, that means so much
As little hands that reach and touch,
As little eyes that search and see
Only the best in fragile me?

So let me grow more loving and wise
By looking at life through their wide eyes.
For through these little ones, Thou hast given
This grateful grandmother a glimpse of Heaven.

Beauties of America

Some of you may wonder why I am just posting pictures from Yellowstone and Montana on by Blog. I was thinking that I should update my profile picture since the one that I have on the blog is from 2005 so as I was looking for a picture without lots of people in it I also ran across some scenery pictures that we took on our trip last August. I have given thought lately to how blessed I am to live in AMERICA and how much beautiful scenery there is. I don't travel very often anymore (and actually never did too much) so I wanted to post some of the places I have been and I should have also attached an explanation as to why I have done it so many months down the road. I love the beautiful scenery that America has to offer. Even if I can't go all the places I would like I can still see them through pictures and through the eyes of friends and family......

Chilcote Clan

It has been over two years since we left our home in Westshire to move to Farmington. This was our home for 31 years. We loved it dearly and raised our five children there. It occured to me today after reading an e-mail from a friend that I had not put our family in focus on my blog as to where they all fit in or all the changes that have happened in a short two and one-half years. I am hopeful that we will have a new family picture taken in the near future but until then - since there are no more weddings in the family this family picture will have to do. Chelsea (Bobbi's daughter) is not here and Sam (Justin's youngest son) was still waiting in Heaven. The the rest of us have made a few changes but this is the majority of the Chilcote Clan. Sean and Sharla have four Children, Sharissa, Brayden, Ashton and Rylee. Cheryl has four children, Nathan, Alyssa, Jonathan and Sean. Justin has three children (two shown) Alex and Jackson. Jason has two children, Olivia and Abigail. Aren't they a beautiful bunch? They are the light of my life!

Cultivate an Attitude of Understanding

For centuries, people have separated each other by setting up barriers and boundaries—the divisions we call “us” and “them.” In our interconnected society, we interact almost daily with people whose heritage, religion, skin color, gender, language, or choices are different from ours. The challenge lies in how we treat each other when we have little in common except our humanity.

Small children seem to be especially good at this. When you smile at a child, she smiles back. When you make a face, she giggles. When you wave good-bye, she waves too. Barriers disappear in this simple, satisfying exchange. Perhaps children haven’t yet learned to see those barriers. Or maybe they see more clearly what’s really important.

Anne Frank, a child herself and a victim of persecution because of her heritage, wrote that “we’re all searching for happiness; we’re all leading lives that are different and yet the same.” “I still believe,” she observed, “in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.”

Accepting one another—no matter our differences—is a measure of our character and our hearts. Acceptance is not about changing “us” or “them”; it’s about a friendly gesture, a smile, an appreciation for interesting company or new ideas. It is learning to accept others despite mistakes, weaknesses, or bad choices and still loving them for who they are. Acceptance comes more easily when we are at peace, confident of our own place, our beliefs and direction.

“Cultivate an attitude of understanding, and come to genuinely like people,” religious leader Thomas S. Monson has said. “I’ve rarely met a person that I didn’t want to get to know better. ... It doesn’t matter who they are.”
